Critical Illness Insurance Tips
Consider the following tips when deciding on the plan that's right for you:
Choose Critical Illness Insurance that Provides More than Financial Protection
A critical illness insurance policy will pay you the stipulated one-time lump-sum benefit if you are diagnosed with and satisfy the survival period of one of the critical illnesses covered in your plan and meet all other policy requirements. However, you may need more than just money. Your illness could leave you facing the need to find the right medical care, change the way you deal with everyday living or cope with a whole new spectrum of concerns.
Critical illness insurance from RBC Insurance® offers you these additional benefits at no additional cost:
- Best Doctors, Inc.: A world leader in connecting people with the best medical care. These services will help guide you to the right medical care and the best specialists worldwide, which can help you to make better healthcare choices.
- Daily Living Assistance benefit: Gives you access to a care coach (a specially trained consultant), who will work with you to develop a plan to help you manage day-to-day activities.
- "The Healing Journey" program: Teaches skills to help you gain more control over your life when dealing with the reality of a critical illness.
- Early assistance benefit: Without reducing your critical illness benefit for future claims, this pays 10% of the critical illness benefit you've purchased (to a maximum of $50,000) in the event you are diagnosed with and complete the survival period for one of the following defined serious illnesses or conditions:
- Early prostate cancer
- Early breast cancer
- Early skin cancer
- Coronary angioplasty
Note: The early assistance benefit is payable only once.
- Long-term care conversion benefit: Allows you to convert all or a portion of your critical illness coverage to long-term care insurance offered by RBC Insurance without having to submit proof of your insurability. †
Purchase Enough Critical Illness Insurance Coverage
If you are ever diagnosed with one of the covered conditions defined in your critical illness insurance policy, there are a number of different things you may want to do with the lump-sum benefit you receive after satisfying the survival period.
For example, you may want to use your benefit to:
- Pay for daily expenses related to recovery
- Reduce or pay off your mortgage, loans or other debts
- Make alterations to your home or vehicle to accommodate special needs
- Seek out-of-country or non-government covered treatments
- Obtain specialized medical treatment or private nursing
- Fund a leave of absence from work
- Protect your savings and assets from being spent on recovery
For these reasons and more, it's a good idea to think about how you would want to use your benefit and how much coverage you might need.
