We want to make sure that you know how to deal with a home emergency and understand what we can do to help make things easier. What to do if you have a home emergency

One of the most important things to do is to stay calm. Make sure that you and your family are safe. Don't enter the premises if you think it may be unsafe - don't take any chances. Make sure your home is secure and that any damage is contained. Leave your home immediately in case of fire.

What you do next will depend on severity of the home emergency that you have.

In general:

• Call for fire, police or emergency medical assistance, as required.
• If the loss involves a theft, report it to the police.
• If you have lost your bank or credit cards, notify the credit card company or bank immediately.
• Call us at the numbers shown above. We'll handle everything for you. We can arrange for a place to stay, cover out-of-pocket expenses and co-ordinate with skilled trades people to survey and repair any damage.
