Is RBC Insurance Newcomer Health Plan (RBC Insurance NHP) right for your group?
To ensure accurate member coverage, the Plan Administrator must be prepared to manage and monitor all administrative events for RBC Insurance NHP.
To complete the add-on process, all Plan Members must have a valid email address.
Group eligibility

Coverage Types

Rates and renewal
The renewal period for RBC Insurance NHP starts every April 1, with a rate guaranteed for 12 months. RBC Insurance will communicate annually to Plan Administrators and advisors before March 1 with the rates for the next guarantee period.

Plan Administrator Responsibilities
As a Plan Administrator for the RBC Insurance Newcomer Health Plan you will need to:
- Add newcomer hires via the Plan Administrator Online Portal.
- Monitor each newcomer’s receipt of coverage under any Government Health Insurance Plan (GHIP)
- Terminate the newcomer’s RBC Insurance NHP Coverage on the Plan Administrator Online Portal within 31 days of the newcomer’s receipt of GHIP coverage.
- Review the monthly billing statements. RBC Insurance NHP coverage billing details are integrated with all other coverages and benefits in the Billing Statement accessible through the Plan Administrator Online Portal.

Plan member eligibility
- ✅ Available to employees under 75 years of age and their dependents
- ✅ Available to temporary foreign workers and newcomers to Canada
- ✅ Employees awaiting coverage under a Government Health Insurance Plan (GHIP) or Canadians returning from overseas and serving the waiting period for GHIP coverage.
- ❌ RBC Insurance NHP plan members are not eligible to enrol via the Self-Enrolment feature

Adding new hires
- The plan member/new hire must complete the Group Enrolment Form and indicate whether they want to opt-in for the RBC Insurance NHP coverage. Plan members must provide a valid email address to complete the add-on process.
- There is no waiting period for RBC Insurance NHP.
- All eligible employees must be enroled within 61 days.
- The Plan Administrator can then enrol the plan member via the Plan Administrator Online Portal via the ‘Add Member’ process:
- Confirm the plan member has a valid work permit and does not have GHIP coverage in place
- Opt in to enrol in RBC Insurance NHP
- Select Coverage Type: Single, Couple, or Family

What can plan members expect?
New hire/plan members can expect to:
- Complete the Group Enrolment Form to opt into RBC Insurance NHP
- Receive an RBC Insurance NHP Welcome Package via email including a Welcome Letter, a RBC Insurance NHP Booklet, a Claim form, a Direct deposit form, and an eCard.
- Gain access to multi-lingual service 8am-5pm ET and to Cowan’s mobile-friendly member site with a suite of eServices, available to members 24/7.
- Receive health care services in Canada. Service providers on the Cowan Preferred Provider Network can bill directly to Cowan, or a member can submit a paper claim via email to Cowan, if the member has paid for eligible services.
