National Remembrance Day Ceremony
The event features a veterans’ parade, the arrival of dignitaries, two minutes of silence at 11:00 am, a 21-gun salute, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

National War Memorial
The front entrance of the hotel will be closed but interested guests may use the side entrance to attend the event. A room key will be required to reenter the hotel.

There is no cost to register for the event. You will be required to make your own arrangements and pay for your hotel accommodation and travel to the Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. Once onsite, all meals and organized activities are covered from November 9 – 11.

The invitation to attend is only for you, guests/spouses are not allowed to attend any part of the event, including meals.

All meals are included, from dinner on Monday, November 9 to lunch on Wednesday, November 11.

Note: Our event ends on Remembrance Day, November 11 and due to the annual parade and ceremonies at the National War Memorial, there will be downtown road closures in effect from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. We have time in our agenda for you to attend the ceremony should you wish and recommend that you do not check out prior to the ceremony as you’ll need your hotel key card for readmission into the hotel.

Veterans and contingents will assemble in front of the Chateau Laurier at 10:10 am before making their way to the National War Memorial at 10:30 am for the national ceremony, flypast and wreath laying at 11:00 am. During this time, the front entrance of the hotel will be closed. We’ll be able to leave through a side entrance but to return, will need hotel key cards.

The following streets will be closed from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 11 due to the ceremony at the National War Memorial:  

  • Elgin Street, from Laurier Avenue to Wellington Street

  • Wellington Street, from Rideau Street/Sussex Avenue to Bank Street

  • Metcalfe Street, between Albert and Wellington streets

  • Queen Street, between O’Connor and Wellington streets

  • Queen Elizabeth Driveway, between Somerset Street and Laurier Avenue West

There will be intermittent, rolling closures between 7 am and 1 pm in the area bounded by Nicholas Street to the east, Laurier Avenue West to the south, Elgin Street to the west, and Wellington/Rideau streets to the north, as the parade is escorted to and from the National War Memorial by the Ottawa Police Service.

You should expect to add at least 30 minutes to your commute depending on closures listed below and parade routes.

There is no self-park available at the hotel. The Chateau Laurier only offers valet parking services for registered guests of the hotel at a cost of $60.00 plus tax per day, this does include in/out privileges.

Yes, the group room rate of $309.00 (plus MAT of 6% and HST of 13%) has been extended for 3 days before and 3 days after.

Guestroom cancellation must be done 48 hours prior to your arrival date to not incur a cancellation charge.  If a reservation is cancelled within 48 hours of arrival there will be a one-night cancellation charge applied to guest credit card on file.
